My Name is Khan

My Name is Khan : Sharukh Khan with Kajol

It’s rare that Bollywood directors and producers take a subject that has got social relevance to it. It is rarest when a Director who only took films about rich Indian families takes a social subject for his film.

MY NAME IS KHAN is one of the most anticipated and much awaited film of the year 2009, This Karan Johar film has been in the limelight ever since its announcement.

My Name Is Khan is Karan Johar's fourth project after blockbuster hits like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. With this film Karan Johar will find himself in class with great filmmakers in India. Karan has already got a neat and luxurious way of telling stories. But the stories he selected would have otherwise fitted aptly for serials.

This time Karan Johar comes with content so different. The content of My Name is Khan is opposite to whatever he has done in the past.
With this film he is throwing away the ‘K’ factor too.

My Name Is Khan is based on a true story which is about a disabled man’s fight against the disability that exists in the world — terrorism, hatred etc. My Name is Khan is also about Islam and the way the world looks at Muslims. It is known that the film does not preach anything or take sides.

There are no good Muslims, bad Muslims, good Hindus, bad Hindus, good Christians, bad Christians. There is only good person or a bad person. Humanity is the criterion, Religion is not.

This is a movie on discrimination against people with Muslim names in the post 9/11 world.

Sharuk khan is Rizwan Khan who has autism in the film.

The first shooting schedule of the film commenced in 2008 end. The brightest on-screen Bollywood celluloid couple, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol shot together for a full fledged project after 8 years.

Sharuk’s shoulder injury delayed the filming schedule early this year.

The shooting is undergoing in Mumbai. The crew is scheduled to go San Francisco in June. After that the film will go into post production.

Cinematography is by Ravi K Chandran. The musical trio Shanker- Ehsaan-Loy composed the film's music.
MY NAME IS KHAN is produced by Dharma Productions.

The film has its relevance in this phase of India where people realizes that terrorism has no religion and also when religion is used as the most lethal political weapon by Parties. Let India remain secular where there is no difference between a Khan and a Kumar.

3 Idiots- review- book yourtickets thru sms @ 52627

Let’s face it: this film is all about expectation. There is Rajkumar Hirani coming out with a film after three years and teaming up with Aamir for the first time; the Rang De Basanti cast reunion with Aamir, Madhavan and Sharman and, add to that, a creatively empty year with hardly any worthwhile films. Whoosh, you can actually cut through the pressure with a knife.

You can hardly help yourself as you watch the film - you’d expect the best from the best, right? Not always, as you learn here. The film’s a good watch, but not great. And worse, you may be entertained, but you’re unlikely to internalise its core message. The film doesn’t convince you enough.

3 Idiots is a film that appears borrowed from too many sources and the haphazardness shows. Editor-director Rajkumar Hirani can’t seem to shake Munnabhai out of his system and appears to have replaced the actor and the setting, while retaining the core formula. Unfortunately, 3 Idiots lacks the effortless simplicity, sweetness and honesty of the Munnabhai films. Though a bit too calculated and designed, 3 Idiots is still an ok option for the significant message, interesting cast and scattered breezy moments.

Ividam Swargamanu - Review- tickets thru SMS balconny @ 52627

With its virtuous intentions and inherent honesty Ividam Swargamanu is a gutsy and good attempt by Rosshan Andrews and script writer James Albert to bring about a change.

The film talks about a crisis situation that happens in the life of a farmer who loves his land and is committed to thwart evil designs of the land mafia.

Rosshan and James has dealt with a topical subject about fly by night real estate dealers who are trying to push up land prices and forcing people to convert farmland into real estate and resorts.

Mohanlal has been shown as a green farmer who cultivates organic vegetables and runs his farm using traditional methods and thereby director Rosshan Andrrews has tried to bring in some difference.

But the immediate feeling that one gets while coming out of the theatres after watching the film is that things could have been even better with a tighter script.

The story meanders almost aimlessly especially during the first half but things get more interesting during the second half. The last 20 minutes of the film is what holds it together.

Mathews (Mohanlal) has become a farmer by choice and has set up a rather impressive farm. He is a chronic bachelor, who is a nice human being and very attached to his family especially his father Jeremiah (Thilakan).

A wealthy land grabber Aluva Chandy (Lalu Alex) wants to purchase Mathews land and he convinces the villagers that a big township will be set up there.

Now the story gets some pace and Mathews has to deal almost singlehandedly with the “real estate mafia” and the corrupt system. When the going gets tough, he decides to use some wily tactics to handle Chandy.

It is Prabalan (Sreenivasan), a lawyer who has been appointed as the ‘amicus curiae’ in the case, who helps Mathews in this.

As the common man who is no invincible superhero and with his heart in the right place, its vintage Mohanlal looking refreshingly good as Mathews.

His on-screen chemistry with seasoned actors like Thilakan, Sreenivasan and Jagathy Sreekumar is a treat to watch Lalu Alex has come up with one of the best performances in his career, as the wealthy, scheming but idiotic Aluva Chandy.

There are three heroines in the story, Betsy (Priyanka Nair), a channel reporter, Sunitha (Lakshmi Rai), a lawyer and Maria (Lakshmi Gopalaswany), the manager of the State Financial Corporation, who have done their brief roles pretty well.

The rest of the cast like Thilakan, Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Sukumari has nothing much to do, as the whole story is centred on Mathews and his agonies.

The story reminds us of the last year Bollywood hit Khosla ka Ghosla at times, especially during the latter part of the second half. But one gets the feeling that if the whole story was paced like those moments in the climax, then the film would perhaps have been in a better shape. At around two hours and forty five minutes, the film is a bit too lengthy as well.

James Albert, who has earlier written films like Classmates and Cycle, has succeeded this time, in parts. Rosshan Andrrews, who made Udayananu Tharam and Note Book earlier, has tried in bring in some freshness to the theme.

Divakar's camera and Gopi Sundar's background score in this film which has no songs.

For those who are looking for something different, Ividam Swargamanu scores with the sincerity in the subject that is being told.

It's definitely far being called perfect, but there are some moments in it that makes the film a worthy watch. Time to grab a pack of popcorn and to head to the cinemas.book your tickets thru smsbalcony 2 52627

Chattambinaadu - review

For this Christmas, once again you have a movie plotted at a remote Tamil Nadu border, with all that colorful camera friendly costume worn dumb village people, two strong families at war for more than two decades, the entry of the hero to settle the war with some mysterious personal interests, the loud mouthed villain with that big moustache and another hundreds of regular features that you come across in almost all the hits of decade. Yes, this is an overall idea of ‘Chattambinaadu’- the new Mammootty movie in theatres, strictly made on the formula stuff with that very old wine story in another new bottle. What really makes a difference is the megastar adorning another sharply different look and slang for his protagonist character, who amuse, confuse and impress the viewers with dialogues that are more Kannada than Malayalam.

n a potpourri of recent hits from Rajamanickayam, to Madambi and Mayavi, the racy narratives and fast cuts has managed to hold the movie without any big harm atleast till interval. But the final hour becomes increasingly predictable, with not much fresh surprises in store. But it is the one-man show of Mammootty, the megastar who really shows how he can hold a movie with a regular lame storyline with his charismatic performances. Even with a regular singular white pajama- kurtha dress code, he is eminently handsome throughout, with his acting credentials once again coming to the fore. Watch out for the two sentimental scenes where he manages to impress everyone, even with heavy Kannada dialogues. Vinu Mohan as his trusted aide Murugan, is in another role that the youngster can treasure. Lakshmi Rai and Mythili manages through the characters they are in while others from Vijayaraghavan, Manoj K Jayan, Siddhique, Janardhanan and Co are all in their regular roles.

Vettaikaran-Sms booking available

For those, who were down in the mouth about Vijay's previous films, you've nothing special in Vijay's 'Vettaikaran'. But, it's slightly average than his previous flicks - 'Kuruvi' and 'Villu'. Possibly, you would be curious to know whether Vijay has imitated anything from Telugu actor Mahesh Babu. Of course, he has aped certain style of uttering dialogues as the same way he does. Indeed, there's a particular shot of breaking a pillar stone just in bare hands (Mahesh Babu in 'Athadu').

The film's synopsis isn't substantial as it offers reminiscences of Vijay previous films 'Tirupatchi', 'Bhagavathy' and few of that sort. Babu Sivan seems to have collected the scenes of other films made by his mentors Dharani and Perarasu.

Palery Manikyam: Oru Pathirakkolapathakathinte Katha Review

Palery Manikyam: Oru Pathirakkolapathakathinte Katha is a very intriguing watch. It might not be liked by the common mass audience. But for people who like watching interesting stories and ideas and good cinema, without the trappings of usual commercial cinema, this film would be very interesting. Ranjith is slowly turning into a new-age Padmarajan of sorts. He is trying bold, mature and interesting themes (Thirakkatha, Kaiyyoppu) and daring experiments (Kerala Cafe) and his storytelling skill is intact in this new movie also. The movie is not suitable for children as it handles an adult theme and has certain scenes which may not be suitable for children to watch, even though they are done very aesthetically and effectively. Mammootty gives some neat performances in his different roles. It is great to have the actor in him back through movies like Loudspeaker, The movie has taken a good opening and it was great to see all kinds of people, including a lot of ladies, watching the movie on second day. With the help of some good marketing, this movie should end up being a success. With a spectacular performance that can leave you spellbound, Mammootty underlines why he is easily regarded among the best actors in the country. His charisma, screen presence and style give an altogether different meaning to the characters and his portrayal of Ahmed Haji will remain as one of the best to have happened in Malayalam films, ever.

Neelatamara review

Due to alliance between M.T Vasudevan Nair and ace director Lal Jose Neelathamara was a much anticipated movie. Interlaced with sensuality and romance, this film has gained attention from audience due to the presence of new comer Archana Kavi, who is been presented with a sultry tone.Neelathamara is a woman centric subject, the story is about the girl (Archana Kavi) coming as a house maid in a mansion to assist the landlady. Her son (Kailas) who return home after his studies take advantage of the maid, he later marries another woman. The story line is thin and the climax seems to be a full stop in the middle of story. The film hasn't got many characters; the director ensembles a fresh new cast including Kailas and Archana Kavi. The song 'Anuraga....' tuned by Vidyasagar got received well. Those who have an ear for music found similitude with 'Karimizhi Kuruvi ' from Meesa Madhavan and 'Poove Poove Paalappove' from Devadhoothan. With able direction from Lal Jose, cinematographer Vijay Ulaganath has successfully created moving frames with authentic look. Art direction from Gokul Das has immensely helped the film, Neelathamara, which is told in flash back.Neelathamara having duration of less than two hours would have been better if made as a short film.New hero Kailas was earlier seen in Anil directed 'Parthan Kanda Paralokam' in a small role. He rechristened as Kailas for the new avatar as central character in this movie. He has done well and can be considered a good addition to the youth in Malayalam film.Lal Jose has proved to be more truthful and dedicated to M.T than to the audience. This beautifully crafted movie may fade after the initial attraction.
